A Tiliger is a second generation hybrid big cat that results from cross breeding of tiger and a liger. A Tiliger has a male tiger as its father and a female liger (ligress) as its mother. This mating of a tiger and a ligress is also classified as cross breeding as well. Furthermore; this birth of the Tiligers represents one of the biggest proofs about ligers regarding their fertility i.e., female ligers are fertile. Moreover; just like ligers, tigons and li-ligers; Tiligers are also classified as hybrid big cats. Tiligers are even more rare than the ligers, as less than 10 Tiligers live in the world today. It should also be noted that a very handful of people in the world have seen Tiligers or have any knowledge of them. Let’s further explore the core attributes associated about these magnificent Tiligers.
According to the experts, a Tiliger is three quarters tiger and one quarter lion. This observation indicates that a Tiliger will have more dominant features of tigers than lions. In fact; people having a look at a Tiliger you will always assume that it is a tiger rather than some hybrid animal resulting from cross breeding of a tiger and ligress. However; having a closer look at the Tiliger reveals its unique facial markings like ligers that are absent in tigers. A Tiliger’s fur color is more brownish rather than the orange fur of a normal tiger but an orange color fur is also witnessed within Tiligers as well. Just like tigers, a Tiliger has stripes all over its body which also makes it almost identical to tiger.
Apart from unique look and appearance, its size is also unique among the big cats as well. According to observations; a Tiliger is bigger than either a lion or a tiger but it is smaller than a liger. Therefore; the size of the Tiliger is in between tiger and a liger. In a very famous video from Wynewood Zoo, a Tiliger can be seen having a fight off dominance with a tiger and he looks bigger than a tiger. Even though the exact weight of a Tiliger is not known but based upon our observations; we can conclude that a Tiliger is almost 700 pounds when it comes to its weight.
It is not known when the world’s first Tiliger was born. However; in our tracking we believe that a Tiliger from Tigerworld animal sanctuary is one of the world’s first known Tiliger. The Tigerworld animal sanctuary is located at North Carolina, USA. The name of this Tiliger at the Tigerworld is Radar the Tiliger. Radar was born in 2008 and after being rescued, Radar is living at Tigerworld ever since. Radar shares his enclosure with a big male liger named as Lil Wayne and a tiger. Tigerworld is a very caring sanctuary for the big cats and Radar seems to be very happy living with his fellow big cats.
If you are eager to watch a Tiliger then you can either visit Tigerworld animal sanctuary in North Carolina, USA or you can visit Wynnewood Zoo in Oklahoma. Wynnewood zoo has multiple Tiligers at its premises. Furthermore; Wynnewood Zoo not only has Tiligers, but Li-Ligers, Ligers and even Tigons as well. Wynnewood Zoo was also the first one to successfully breed America’s first Liliger. Furthermore; world’s first male Liliger was also born in Wynnewood Zoo as well. According to their senior official Joe Schreibvogel; Tiligers and other hybrid animals are part of the Wynnewood Zoo to encourage the discovery of the knowledge associated with hybrid big cats. Therefore Tiligers, Liligers, Ligers and Tigons are part of learning and knowledge programs at Wynnewood Zoo in Oklahoma, USA.
A very big question about Tiligers is their further reproduction. So far we have concluded that female ligers are fertile and because of them the existence of the Tiliger has been made possible. However; we haven’t heard any evidence that a male or female Tiliger has successfully mated with another big cat to produce another hybrid offspring. For example Radar the male Tiliger hasn’t produced any offspring yet at Tigerworld animal sanctuary. Similarly; we haven’t heard any Tiliger offspring from Wynewood Zoo as well. Therefore; right now at this point there are a lot of questions regarding fertility/sterility of the Tiligers and in case no evidence of any offspring from Tiliger will occur, the Tiliger big cat family will be considered as a sterile one.
