Ligers have also been the victim of lies at various online platforms. These lies are mostly distributed at various online websites by the liger critics, who have a very negative agenda about the ligers. It appears like they have gone to such a level that they are taking the back of the lies to support their claims because the reality about the ligers is much different than these lies. The ligerworld.com has gone through all such lies and found them nothing more than an organized propaganda.
Ligers are the victim of lies by their critics online. These lies are spread at various online platforms through a very organized way to malign the image of the ligers and the hybrid big cats.
The Ligerworld.com also found all these lies to be baseless, as they are stated without any factual support and evidence etc. Most astonishingly, the individuals who never owned the ligers and never researched were mostly involved in stating these lies under the cover of their organizations. This article will expose all such lies about the ligers and will uncover the truth about the ligers.
The biggest lie which is speculated by the liger critics all over the internet is about the health of the ligers. The lie states that the ligers have the weaker immune system and because of that they are amenable to different kinds of diseases and health problems. The lie depicts the ligers as if; they stay weak and unhealthy throughout their entire lives. This is absolutely wrong because the ligers are absolutely healthy and they live as normal as many other big cats.
The Biggest lie about the ligers is about their health and it is states that they are not healthy at all. This is absolutely wrong because ligers are free of diseases and they live as normal as the other big cats in captivity.
In our observation; we have studied almost 100 ligers throughout the world and always found the ligers to be healthy and free of diseases. We have been tracking the ligers for more than 10 years at different locations and never found any genetic related health problem with the ligers. Dr. Bhagavan Antle; who has worked with the ligers for decades, says that he has only seen ligers to be bigger, powerful and stronger while being free of any health related issues.
The most common lie about the ligers is about their sterility. Even many big cat experts and authors have considered ligers as the sterile before. Furthermore; just by overlooking that the ligers are the hybrid big cats, the ligers have always been stigmatized as the sterile big cats. Even though this lie was uncovered long ago, but in 2012 the birth of the Li-ligers was the real proof that the ligers are not sterile but rather sterile.
The most common lie about ligers is stated the the ligers are sterile. However; this is not true; because recently female ligers have given record numbers of births to Li-Ligers and the Ti-Ligers.
Onwards; from 2012 till now, record numbers of female ligers have given birth in the current decade. A female liger can successfully breed with a male lion or a male tiger to produce the Li-Liger or the Ti-Liger offspring. According to Dr. Bhagavan Antle, the ligers are not sterile and he believes that the female ligers breed much better than the male ligers but there is a greater possibility that the male ligers can also breed as well. Dr. Bhagavan Antle has decades of experience with the big cats.
Another blatant lie about the ligers is about their genetic defects. Without any kind of evidence and any supporting fact, it is usually claimed that all ligers have genetic defects. They only base the genetic defects of the ligers on the basis of other hybrid animals with genetic defects. However; this is not true and the ligers can't have genetic defects because their parents have equal numbers of chromosomes i.e., 38 for lions and 38 for tigers.
A blatant lie that is vividly spoken against the ligers is about their genetic defects. The truth is ligers do not have genetic defects because their parents are very closely related and they share equal numbers of chromosomes.
When the ligers are born, they inherit 38 chromosomes from their parents through crossbreeding. When the chromosomes are equal there is no possibility of the genetic defects and the resultant offspring i.e., the ligers, are as health as their parents.
A big lie about the ligers states that their cubs are so much bigger in size that a tigress has to go through the C-Section procedure for the successful delivery of these cubs. First of all this is not true. Secondly; there is not a single record, where a tigress has given birth of the liger cubs through the C-Section procedure.
A very big lie about the ligers is that their mothers have to go through the C-Section for the successful delivery of the liger cubs. This is wrong. Liger cubs are born the same size as the tiger cubs while the tigress gives birth to the liger cubs through the normal process.
Third; even the accidental births have been recorded about the ligers, where the owners were not even aware that the tigress was pregnant with the ligers (No C-section involves there). Lastly; the liger cubs are of the same size as the tiger cubs and the lion cubs and there is no way a tigress has to go through the C-section for the liger cubs being larger in size at the birth.
Some lies also state that the ligers have a short lifespan and they die very young. The lies explain that the ligers have health issues (also not true) and they die very young. This is another big lie against the ligers without any supporting evidence at all. The fact of the matter is, the ligers live as normal and as long as the lions and the tigers' lifespan. On average the ligers live around 12 to 14 years in captivity. This average age of the ligers is almost similar to the average age of the lions and the tigers.
Another lie about the liger is that the ligers have a very short lifespan and they die very young. This is absolutely wrong because ligers live as long as lions and tigers and their average ages are in between 12 to 14 years. Some even live more.
Furthermore; at ligerworld.com we trace ligers on regular basis and the ligers which we saw a decade ago are even still alive today. The longest living liger is Shasta the liger which lived for more than 24 years. This is the world record for any liger to live this much long. Similarly; a male liger at the Myrtle Beach Safari lived for almost 20 years. The world's biggest liger Hercules (weighing 921 pounds) is more than 14 years old.
Another lie about the ligers is that they grow all their lives. Plus the critics say that the organs of the liger keep on growing all lives. This is also absolutely false as well. Again this is not true at all. Ligers have peak growth years from age of 1 to 4 years. Onwards; in year 5 and 6 they may only grow partially. After that; their growth stops, however; they might grow weight to some extent. People basically think the weight increase within ligers as their growth which is absolutely false.
A lie about the growth of the liger is stated that the ligers keep on growing all their lives. This is not true. Their growing years are the first 4 years. Onwards; they may tend to gain weight but their basic body structure stops growing after 4 to 5 years.
Let's take an example of Hercules the liger who weighed more than 900 pounds and was 11 feet long at the age of 4 years. At the age of 10+ years, Hercules the liger was still 11 feet long and weighed 921 pounds. The same is true about other ligers too. They grow during their peak growth periods while onward no growth is observed within them.
A lie about physical shortcomings about the ligers states that they have shorter legs and they can't withstand their huge size and weight of the body. There is no truth in this lie either. First of all, the ligers do not have shorter legs. If we measure the legs of the ligers, they are almost twice bigger than the legs of the lions and the tigers. Secondly; at the shoulder height; a liger stands almost 5 feet tall while the lions and tigers are less than 4.5 feet.
Many critics lie about the ligers that they have shorter legs. However; if we compare the liger legs with the lion and the tiger legs, they are not only significantly bigger but also strong enough to support the overall weight of 900+ pounds.
Furthermore; if a liger sits on its hind legs and stand on its front legs, a liger is almost 6 feet tall from the surface to the tip of its ears. All of these evidences; exclusively prove that ligers do not have the shorter legs but rather they have a huge body structure and larger body frame which support their massive size.
A very strange lie targeting the personality disorder of the ligers states that the ligers have a very confused personality. Ligers do not know what to do, as if to roar like a lion or to chuff like a tiger. Once again; there is no truth about the confused personality (lie) about the ligers because the ligers have to roar when they have to and they have to chuff like tiger; when it seems appropriate for them to do it.
A lie targeting the personality disorder of the ligers state that they have a confused personality as they can't differentiate when to roar or to chuff. There is no truth about it and the ligers have a great personality order.
For example; according to the zookeepers, the ligers also roar, when they listen to the roar of the other lions (nothing confused about ligers' personality in it). Similarly; the ligers chuff when they want to greet their keepers and it is the part of their socialization connection their caretakers.
Some news sources (even the most reputable ones) while exaggerating the rarity of the ligers state a lie that there are only 10 to 20 ligers in the world. Whether it's the lack of knowledge or the miscommunication, but this figure is totally wrong because it is nowhere near to the actual numbers of ligers in the world right now. Even though ligers were rare about a decade ago but today they are in tremendous numbers all over the world.
Several news sources exaggerate that the ligers are so rare that there are only 20 of them in the world. This is absolutely wrong because there are more than 100 ligers in the world.
According to the ligerworld.com; there are more than 100 ligers (120 ligers to be exact) in the world, living in different countries including the USA, China, Russia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Africa, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, United Arab Emirates and the South Korea. United States leads the numbers with more than 50 ligers at the moment followed by the China and the Russia respectively.
Lastly; a lie as part of the propaganda against the ligers (by the liger critics) is stated that the ligers serve no purpose for the conservation of the big cat species. This is also not true. According to the big cat experts who have raised ligers for decades, the ligers do play a key role for the conservation of the big cats.
The critics lie about the ligers that they serve no purpose for the conservation of the big cat species. This is also wrong because the ligers act as the brand ambassadors to educate and teach people about the conservation of the big cats.
Ligers act as the brand ambassadors for the conservation of big cat species and they educate the people about the cause to save the big cats in the wild. People seem to take keen interest in ligers and they give more attention to the overall message which the ligers deliver for the conservation of the big cat species. Ligers even help to generate the funding of the big cats not only in the wild but also within the captivity.
