Li-Ligers in China

In 2019; at least 3 Li-Liger cubs were born at one of the zoos in China. The birth of the Li-Liger cubs was highly significant because this is the first ever instance of the Li-Ligers' births in China. The exact date of these Li-Ligers' birth is not known, however; we can confirm that these Li-Liger cubs were born at the beginning of the March in 2019. By definition, a Li-Liger is an offspring of the male lion and the female liger (ligress).

China's Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park welcomed the birth of the three Li-Liger cubs. These three Li-Liger cubs were born in between in March, 2019.

According to the sources; a total of three Li-Liger cubs were born at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park which is located within Haiku city of China. Previously; Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park was also famous for having plenty of ligers at its various enclosures. Furthermore; China's first liger cubs were also born at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park. Let's explore more about the arrival of these rarest Li-Liger cubs that are born in China.

China's first litter of Li-Liger cubs was born in 2019. Accroding to the reports, three Li-Liger cubs were born to the female liger and the male lion. Photo courtesy of

The gender of these Li-Liger cubs is still not known but from the pictures we can confirm that one of the Li-liger cubs is the male Li-Liger. Remember; the world's first male Li-Liger cubs were only born at the Wynnewood Zoo in Oklahoma, USA. Luckily; China has both the male and the female Li-Ligers. The presence of the spotted marks on the fur of these cubs also confirms that these are the Li-Liger cubs.

One of the three Li-Liger cubs born is the male Li-Liger while possibly the other two are the female Li-Ligers. These Li-Liger cubs have beautiful spotted marks on their fur which are neither present on the fur of the ligers and nor the lions.

Unlike; the lions, tigers and even ligers, the Li-ligers have spotted marks on their fur and these spots remain visible even when the Li-Ligers grow bigger. When the Li-Ligers grow up, the spots of the Li-Ligers resemble the spots of the Jaguars but the spotted marks of the Li-Ligers are dark brown in color. As the Li-Ligers get older their dark brown spots on the fur get dimmer and dimmer but they still look recognizable.

One of the three Li-Liger cubs is the male Li-Liger while the other two of them are the female Li-Ligers.

At just a few weeks old (April 2019), these Chinese Li-Liger cubs are very small and they are probably around 2 Kg in Weight but these Li-Ligers will grow faster than the lions and the tigers. The male Li-Ligers are also capable of growing bigger than the lions and the tigers. Therefore; these Chinese Li-Ligers (the male Li-Ligers) are expected to grow more than 800 pounds in weight and almost 11 feet long in length.

The male Li-Liger born at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park in China is expected to gain more than 800 pounds (when fully mature) and 11 feet long in length. Female Li-Ligers are almost as big as the male lions and the tigers.

Currently; the male Li-Liger named as Boco at the Wynnewood Zoo in Oklahoma (USA), weighs more than 800 pounds with 11 feet long length. Boco is also the biggest Li-liger in the world. He is biggest because we don't have any bigger male Li-Ligers in the world right now. Just like the female ligers, the female Li-Ligers grow almost as big as the male lions and even tigers.

China is only the third country in the world, where the female liger has given birth of the Li-Liger cubs. The other two countries with Li-Ligers include the United States and the Russia. The Li-Ligers are even rarer than the ligers and there are only 12 of them (including Chinese Li-Ligers) in the world right now.

China is only the third country in the world, where the female liger has successfully given the birth to the Li-Liger cubs. Previously; the female ligers from the Russia and United States have also given births to the Li-Liger cubs.

China has three of them right now while the total numbers of ligers in China are around 25. Russia was the first country in the world, where a female liger successfully gave birth to the world's first Li-Liger. Onwards; the Wynnewood Zoo in USA and now the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park in China also have also got these rarest Li-Ligers. On the other hand; currently there are as many as 120 ligers in the world.

Li-Ligers are only found in China, Russia and USA.
Only the three countries in the world have Li-Ligers. These countries include the Russia, China and the United States.

The decade of 2010s has been phenomenal for the rise in liger population all over the world. The same decade has also witnessed the birth of the Li-Ligers as well. Previously; it was believed that the ligers are sterile, therefore; no effort was made within the captivity to breed the ligers with the lions to produce the Li-Ligers.

The birth of the Li-ligers from China is also the clear indicator that the ligers are not sterile but rather fertile. Furthermore; they can successfully breed with other big cats and continue to increase the population of the hybrid big cats.

Now after the birth of the Li-Ligers in China, Russian and USA, the zookeepers all over the world are aware that the ligers are not sterile and they will definitely focus on breeding more female ligers in the future. Therefore; we should expect more litters of Li-Ligers and Ti-Ligers coming not only from China but also from the other countries all over the world.

Female Ligers are capable of producing the Li-Ligers and the Ti-Ligers.
The female ligers all over the world are not sterile and they are capable of producing the Li-Ligers or the Ti-Ligers.

The Hainan Tropical wildlife Park has so far not publically explained the presence of the Li-Ligers at their premises. We have gathered information from the direct call to the zoo and from visitors visiting the zoo.

However; there is no doubt about the authenticity of this information because in some of the pictures the female liger could be seen with the male lion and in other pictures a female liger could be seen feed the young cubs which are definitely the Li-Liger cubs. However; with further information coming from the zoo, we shall further update the information about these Li-Liger cubs from China.
