Kalika is a female liger which is born to a male African lion and female tiger. Kalika is not a huge liger so far because of its age. Kalika is only just 9 months old as by August 2010. During the first year of the their age the ligers grow very fast as compared to other cats. A liger is capable of growing upto 1 pound in one day and even faster than that. But this is specifically true for the male ligers. Male ligers grow bigger as compared to the female ligers.
Ligers Usually reach their prime size around 3 to 4 years of age and their growth further continues till 10 to 12 years. By the time Kalika will reach this age it is highly expected that it will be around 800 to 900 pounds at maximum. Ligers consume twice and even thrice more food as compared to lions and tigers.
Kalika has very beautiful patterns of the tiger lines on its skin. This pattern is dark brown in color. Kalika has obtained this lining pattern specifically from its mother a female Bangal tiger. On the other hand it also has a brownish color of the lions as well.
Kalika also has spots on its face like that of the tigers as well. Her tail resembles more like that of the tiger. Most of the ligers possess a tiger patterned tails with light brown color.
Kalika is a very friendly with the cub. Kalika loves to cuddle with humans and likes to play with ball. Water pool is its favorite place which also gives it a pure trait of the tigers. Tigers love to swim and they are capable to snatch their prey from the water as well. Staff members are training Kalika on the regular basis, and they hope Kalika will become a nicely tamed liger in the future.
