Ligers have been witnessed within various circus shows around the world. People are always astonished by the presence of the ligers and their performance within the circus acts and they are always surprised to watch the presence of the ligers. Please do remember that a liger feat within the circus is a very rare occurrence.
Watching a liger in a circus is one of the rarest and most amazing experience because you are witnessed the biggest of the big cats in the circus arena.
It is one in a thousand circus occurrence around the world because there are very few numbers of ligers (around 100 ligers) and only one or two ligers are part of the circus shows at the global level in our observation. Even though this topic seems to be highly controversial and sensitive because of the reported animal abuse within the circuses yet we believe that there are still some highly responsible animal circuses around the world which promise proper animal care along with circus activities.
A very popular circus show with liger feats takes place at Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary which is located at Sarasota, Florida, USA. Apart from liger other exotic big cats such as lions and tigers are also part of the circus act. The animal sanctuary is mostly devoted towards the conservation of the big cat species and this circus show is just a small seasonal segment from animal sanctuary.
The best way to witness a liger in a circus show is by visiting Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary.
In the circus show a liger is introduced to the audience and then later she is encouraged to jump through the ring back and forth. The circus trainer also interacts with the liger by instructing the liger to roar or to swipe the paw and so on. The overall circus show seems to fascinate the attention of the viewers at the circus show.
Let's profile up the liger which is part of the circus shows at the Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. The name of the liger which participates at the circus show at the Big Cat Habitat is Mia the liger. Mia is a female liger and she is part of the Big Cat Habitat since 2010 as a little cub. Mia the liger currently weighs around 450 pounds and she is as huge as a male lion or a male tiger.
Mia is a very well-known liger from the Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary to be part of Circus show.
She is currently 8 years old and she is part of the Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary since she was a small cub. Mia the liger looks very healthy and the animal sanctuary provides her all the best facilities i.e., spacious enclosures, medical facilities, clean food, swimming areas etc. Big Cat Habitat also has another liger named as Brutus the liger but this liger is not part of the circus shows.
Apart from Big Cat Habitat, a few circuses in Russia and in China also have ligers within their shows. In 2010; a video of a liger cub from Russia's Yekaterinburg region appeared online and his owner was raising him for the circus shows in future. However; latterly no whereabouts of this liger were ever shared online.
USA, China and Russia are the only countries where you can witness ligers within the circus shows.
There is also a portable zoo in Russia which conduct big cat shows at different cities of Russia and it does include a circus shows as well. Similarly; some circus shows having ligers are also witnessed within China as well. In the twentieth century; the circus shows from India's Alipur zoo; also used to include ligers and other exotic big cats.
The presence of the big cats (including ligers) and other animals within the circuses is also unfairly criticized by the animal rights activists around the world. PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) exaggeratedly leads the charge in this regard. According to them; all the circus animals are subject to abuse and they never receive fair treatment. They have also shown videos as well in which circus animal handlers are mistreating animals in the worst possible way.
Animal Rights Activists are campaigning heavily against the presence of the animals within the circuses.
But this does not mean that all the circus owners are mistreating their animals. There are very well-reputed animal trainers in circuses who love their animals and treat them gently as their own. In doing so PETA and other animal rights activists are also harassing and pressurizing pet owners at circuses and at other private facilities. PETA has also been lobbying for a complete ban on performance of animals in the circuses.
Today; all the legitimate circus owners are fighting for the survival of the circuses these days because of animal abuse by illegitimate circus owners. PETA is also against the existence of ligers and it is lobbying heavily against the ligers by lying about them.
PETA is campaigning not only against the presence of animals within the circus shows but also against the breeding of the ligers as well.
Ironically; none of them ever had a liger or even bothered to research about ligers but on media they state their false facts as if they are the real experts of hybrid big cats and others. Even more ironically PETA has shown an image of a disfigured tiger and depicted it as a liger on their website. Liger experts strongly deny such claims by PETA and equate them nothing more than myths.
So far; in 2018 about 41 countries have banned the performance of the animals within circus shows. Some of these countries include Italy, Romania, Mexico, Greece, Singapore, Costa Rica, Taiwan, Iran, and Colombia etc. Taiwan is also the only country in the world which has put a ban on crossbreeding of the big cats to produce ligers or tigons etc. Animal rights activists are also lobbying heavily in United States and United Kingdom to put a ban on the performance of animals within the circus shows. If this trend continued and more cases of animal abuse will surface online, there will be a big possibility of a complete ban on all animal shows within circuses at the global level.
