Liger: The Second Fastest Carnivore in the World
Liger not only holds the record of heaviest animal in the world. It also holds the record for the second fastest Carnivore in the world. Undoubtedly, the fastest carnivore animal in the world is Cheetah. A Cheetah can maintain a top speed of nearly 125 kilometers per hour. That is equal to a fast moving vehicle at a very high speed on the roads. On the second spot is tiger. A tiger can reach the top speed of more than 80 kilometers per hour.
However, tiger is also tied up with liger as the second fastest carnivore animal in the world. A liger is also capable of running more than 80 kilometers per hour. Keeping this thing in mind that there is a lower number of population and lesser observations of ligers' top speeds, a liger might be capable of running faster than 80 kilometers per hour as well. Liger has big body structure and researchers believe that liger has adopted its top speed from the tigers. Therefore, it can be the second fastest carnivore animal in the world as well.
Lions are capable of running nearly 60 kilometers per hour. This can be a disadvantage for the lions to catch their prey, but lions work in groups to bring down their prey. Moreover, lions are very subtle hunters as well. Even the isolated lions are capable of awesome hunter. In of the documentary in National Geographic it was specifically observed that a lioness with only 3 legs (with one lion being amputated) was capable of taking down a huge prey such as wildebeest. The African Cape Dogs are capable of running more than 70 kilometers per hour. Therefore, African Cape dogs hold the record of third fastest carnivores in the world. Grey hounds are also capable of maintaining the speeds of more than 70 kilometers per hour as well.
