Genetically; the female ligers are almost identical and same as the male ligers except for their gender difference and sizes. Just like the male ligers, the female ligers are also classified as the hybrid big cats because they result from crossbreeding of a male lion and a tigress.

The average weight for a female liger is around 450 to 480 pounds which is almost an average weight for a male lion or a tiger.

However; just like male ligers, the female ligers have tawny brown fur and dark brown stripes over their fur.

Unlike the male ligers which are long thought to be sterile, the female ligers are not sterile but rather they are fertile. Even though female ligers are giving births for a while but this attribute was specifically highlighted in 2012; when a female liger in Novosibirsk Zoo gave birth to a young Liliger cub. It was believed that it was the first ever Liliger's birth in the world.

A Liliger is a big cat offspring that has a male lion as its father and a female liger as its mother. Onwards a female liger in USA's Wynnewood Zoo also gave birth to liliger cubs as well. The birth of the Liliger and Tiliger is the biggest proof that female ligers are fertile. A very famous female liger is Shasta the liger. Shasta is the longest living liger ever in the world and that is why she is one of the most famous female liger in the world. Shasta the liger was born in 1948 at Utah's Hogle Zoo in USA. She lived for record 24 years and died in 1972.

Surprisingly no female liger has ever been heard at the world's famous animal safari park i.e., Myrtle Beach Safari. This safari park has introduced more ligers in USA than any other safari park and surprisingly all of these ligers happen to be the male ligers. All the ligers born at the Myrtle Beach Safari have always been the male ligers. However; we may expect a female liger from Myrtle Beach Safari anytime sooner as well. Dr. Bhagavan Antle who is the director of the Myrtle Beach Safari also believes that female ligers breed much better than the male ligers.
