Ligers at Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary

Ligers are one of the key attractions of the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary. In fact; the presence of the ligers makes the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary to be amongst very few numbers of zoos or sanctuaries in the world having ligers. This wildlife sanctuary is located at city of Punta Gorda within the Floridian state of USA. Apart from the ligers you can also watch a lot of other big cats at the sanctuary i.e., tigers, lions, leopards and panthers etc. The exact address of this wildlife sanctuary is "41660 Horseshoe Rd, Punta Gorda, Florida, USA".

Ligers are part of the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary since 2017. The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary is located within the Punta Gorda city of Florida, USA.

If you are in Florida and you are willing to watch a real liger then Octagon is one of the few places where you can watch it. Otherwise; the options to watch a liger at the state of Florida are a lot as many zoos and animal sanctuaries have ligers in Florida. These zoos and animal sanctuaries include ZWF Miami, Jungle Island, Care Foundation, McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary and Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Course Sanctuary etc. All of these facilities have ligers from the last couple of years now.

As of 2019; there are at least 2 ligers at the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary. One of these ligers is the male liger while the other one is the female liger. The male liger's name is Achilles the liger while the female liger's name is Aphrodite the liger. Both of these ligers are at least 2 years old and they appear to be from the same litter.

The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary has 2 ligers (one male one female). Both of these ligers are 2 years old and they came to the sanctuary in 2017.

The male liger Achilles is expected to grow as much as 800 to 900 pounds in weight and 10 to 11 feet in length. Male ligers grow very rapidly and on average and they grow 1 pound per day. Ligers usually grow during the first 4 years of their lives. On the other hand; the female liger is expected to grow around 400 to 450 pounds in weight which is almost equivalent to the weight of the male lions.

The best part is the authorities of the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary have also profiled their animals at the sanctuary as well. The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary does not breed any animals at its premises and their ligers were not part of any breeding program. According to the authorities; both of the ligers (Achilles and Aphrodite) were born in 2016 and they were brought to the sanctuary in 2017 from some other zoo which failed to provide shelter for these magnificent animals.

Both Achilles and Aphrodite (ligers) were brought to the zoo in 2017. They were previously born at some animal sanctuary which failed to fulfill their basic needs.

Sadly; in USA it often happens that the caretakers of the exotic animals fail to provide them the necessary care. Therefore; rather than being manhandled or mistreated, such animals are welcomed by the animal sanctuaries across the USA. Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary classifies itself as a refuge for the abandoned animals. According to them; the captive animals cannot survive in the wild and their sanctuary welcomes any abandoned animal.

The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary offers perfect habitat for its ligers and all the other animals. The enclosure of the animals are very wide which allows the animals to easily play, run and move within their enclosures. There is a huge water tub within the liger's enclosure. Since; the ligers love to swim and prefer to sit in water like the tigers, therefore; both Aphrodite and Achilles enjoy and cool down within this water tub.

Both of these ligers tend to enjoy the facilities within their enclosure. They often preferably sit within the water tub in the hot summers to chill themselves up.

There is an extra fencing around the enclosures of the animals for the protection of the visitors. However; this extra fencing tends to challenge the photographers who love to take snaps of these magnificent animals. Lastly; the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary also has veterinary facilities too for not only their own animals but also for the other animals within the suburbs.
