Ligers have appeared within Guinness Book of World Records for at least 4 times. Their huge overall size, their uniquely magical appearance and their popularity are one of the core factors which prompt the record bookers to acknowledge these magnificent big cats (ligers) within Guinness Book of World Records. So far in our research; ligers have made their appearance within Guinness Book Records in 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2014. Furthermore; on numerous occasions ligers have also been highlighted within referral listing articles of Guinness Book of World Records where they are integrated with a set of other animals as well. Let's highlight further about all such accumulations of the ligers within Guinness Book of World Records!
In 2004; ligers made their first ever entry into Guinness Book of World Records. On that occasion ligers were officially declared as the biggest cat species living on planet earth. A very famous and huge liger named as Hobbs the Liger featured within the Guinness Book of World Records. According to Guinness World Records Hobbs the liger at that time weighed around 992 pounds in weight. Hobbs at that time was the biggest liger in the world. Even today; we haven't found any record of a liger reaching a weight of 992 pounds. This also makes Hobbs the liger as the biggest liger ever in our record books for tracking the biggest and heaviest liger.
Later in 2006, ligers were once again highlighted as the biggest cats within Guinness Book of World Records. This time a liger from Myrtle Beach Safari South Carolina, USA became part of the Guinness Book of World Records. Two very famous big cat trainers Dr. Bhagavan Antle and China York also appeared along with Hercules the liger within Guinness Book of World Records 2006. Together both of these animal trainers have more than 50 years of experience with the big cats including ligers. Within the photograph of Guinness Book of World Record, Hercules the liger was lured to eat a piece meat at a particular height by China York; while Dr. Bhagavan Antle could be seen standing along with Hercules the liger.
In 2013; Myrtle Beach Safari made another world record by successfully cross breeding a male white tiger with a female white tigress. The result was a litter of 4 white liger cubs which were very unique and first ever in the world. The white ligers even though were not fully white but rather had a very unique off-white color as compared to the normal ligers.
All the white liger cubs born at the Myrtle Beach Safari were male ligers. This was the second instant when ligers from Myrtle Beach Safari were highlighted within Guinness Book of World Records.
Once again in 2014; Hercules the liger was again highlighted within Guinness Book of World Records. This time Hercules the liger was declared as the biggest individual big cat living on planet earth. According to the estimates; Hercules the liger weighed about 921 pounds. Furthermore; Hercules was also declared non-obese biggest cat in the world. Hercules the liger is the only big cat in the world which has appeared twice within Guinness Book of World Records. A very famous animal trainer from Myrtle Beach Safari i.e., Moksha Bybee also appeared along with Hercules the liger within Guinness Book of World Records 2014. According to Dr. Bhagavan Antle; Hercules has made a lot of records throughout his life and his acknowledgement within Guinness Book of World Records is another milestone for him.
It has been 3 occasions that the ligers from Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina USA have appeared within Guinness Book of World Records. All the credit also goes to the animal trainers who work very hard at Myrtle Beach Safari. Dr. Bhagavan Antle, Rajani Ferrante, Moksha Bybee, China York and Chris Heidin are all very experienced liger and big cat trainers from Myrtle Beach Safari. These animal trainers have on average 25 years of experience with the ligers. Furthermore; to their credit these animal trainers have raised more than 10 ligers and hundreds of other big cats at the Myrtle Beach Safari as well which is also a big record as well.
Lastly; the accumulation of the ligers within Guinness Book of World Records also means representation of the ligers and other big cats at international level. According to Dr. Bhagavan Antle; ligers are the brand ambassador for the conservation of the big cat species around the world. They catch the attention of the individuals at the global level and people become interested in conservation of the big cats both within captivity and within the wild as well. Therefore; recognition of the liger is a very beneficial for the conservation of the endangered big cats in the wild such as lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards and Cheetahs.
