Hercules the liger is specifically capable of speeding around 50 miles per hour. This speed is more than 90 kilometers per hour and it is as good as tigers, because Siberian Tigers are also capable of running 50 miles per hour as well. Therefore; in terms of its speed, Hercules the liger has inherited all of its attributes from its mother which is a female Siberian Tigress. Lions on the other hand are rather slower, which can maintain a speed of around 40 to 50 miles per hour at maximum. Therefore; it also gives a key indicator that Hercules has inherited its speed attributes from its mother rather than its father.
Since Hercules the liger is a hybrid and it has inherited its speed of 50 miles per hour from its mother female Siberian Tigress, there is also a possibility that some ligers might be slower and inherit their running or speeding characteristics from their fathers e.g., A Male African Lions. On the other hand apart from Hercules the liger, there is no other liger in the world whose speed is measured while running. So the question does arise that whether there is any liger in the world, who is slower than Hercules the liger and runs around 35 miles to 40 miles per hour?
Dr. Bhagvan Antle and his team at Parrot Jungle Island measured this speed of Hercules the liger. Previously Dr. Bhagvan Antle also measured another of his Liger speed which was named as Sudan the liger. Remember that liger Sudan was also capable of running around 50 miles per hour and Dr. Bhagavan Antle also posited it within the liger demonstration of some magazine as well. This truly gives a good enough fact of at least 2 observations that ligers are capable of speeding around 50 miles per hour by observing Hercules the Liger, and Sudan the Liger.
Moreover; it is very unusual for Hercules the liger to maintain this much speed of 50 miles per hour. Usually big animals who weigh more than 700 pounds, they are believed to be slower, sluggish and even lazy. The examples of these animals include Giraffes, Rhinos, Hippos, Buffaloes and Bison etc. However; tigers and lions are the one who are around 500 to 600 pounds and previously among them only tigers were capable of reaching 50 miles per hour, now it is ligers which are equally capable of running at 50 miles per hour as well. Cheetahs are the fastest ones with a speed of around 70 miles per hour but they weigh 6 times less as compared to the ligers, and about 4 & 3 times less as compared to tigers and lions respectively.
Hercules the liger has long legs and longer body structure as compared with the fellow big cats e.g., lions and tigers. A combination of these two physical features certainly allows Hercules the liger to have a bigger leap and jump, resulting in a faster speed. Moreover; these longer legs and back of Hercules the liger is also fully equipped with bigger and stronger muscles which also allows Hercules the liger to maintain this speed of 50 miles per hour.
Hercules the liger can only maintain this speed for small bursts and small intervals. It is impossible for any big cat to maintain its top speed for big intervals even for couple of minutes. Usually these top burst speed is recorded within the matter of seconds for all the big cats and it is true even for the fastest land mammal cheetah as well. Therefore; if you are expecting Hercules the liger to maintain this speed of 90 kilometers per hour or 50 miles per hour for 1 hour or even for 5 minutes, that will be an impossible task. Scientific evidence do suggests that after maintaining a top speed burst for few seconds, the nervous system of the big cats start to heat up and they have to lower the speed to avoid any nervous breakdown.
